We have never had a backsplash in our kitchen and I have pondered on this..... I did my research and then some! I have watched every tutorial and read every bloggy experience, even the horror stories! I finally found the courage to experiment! I found this to be a very tedious yet enjoyable experience! <span style="font-size: large;">One that ended in victory!&nbsp;</span>We all sit at the counter to <span style="font-size: large;"><i><u>"oooooh and awww!"</u></i></span> our beautiful new space! We absolutely love it!&nbsp;</div><div><br /> </div><div><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Supplies:</b></span></div><div><div>bravery</div><div>sponge brushes in various sizes</div><div>ruler</div><div>grout line stencil tape</div><div>painters tape</div><div>various colors of paint&nbsp;</div><div>water based polyurethane</div></div><div>deep breathing</div><div>small paintbrush for touch ups</div><div><br /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2U_OTuxgwXk/UPgemVUkXJI/AAAAAAAADuw/O7-bTOcDEPI/s1600/Faux+backsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2U_OTuxgwXk/UPgemVUkXJI/AAAAAAAADuw/O7-bTOcDEPI/s320/Faux+backsplash.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nxnsW01GHjY/UPgezU8W-GI/AAAAAAAADvs/T7S8Mns4Ois/s1600/faux+tile.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nxnsW01GHjY/UPgezU8W-GI/AAAAAAAADvs/T7S8Mns4Ois/s400/faux+tile.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div>&nbsp;Start by painting the background the color you wish your "grout" to be. For best results allow to dry for at least 24 hrs. Then you can begin the design process one of two ways.... build your design by sketching it out on paper and then transfer the design to your intended space. Do this in sections. If you have a good eyeball and imagination you can begin by building your design directly onto the wall, also by section. Whatever is easier for you!<br /> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0GLrKInFdpk/UPgevB9ZMsI/AAAAAAAADvg/VKiEXe-j_6o/s1600/grout+line+tape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0GLrKInFdpk/UPgevB9ZMsI/AAAAAAAADvg/VKiEXe-j_6o/s200/grout+line+tape.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DFnzmlaGyUU/UPgjQnOWY9I/AAAAAAAADwk/p30u_38Euww/s1600/painted+faux+tile+backsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DFnzmlaGyUU/UPgjQnOWY9I/AAAAAAAADwk/p30u_38Euww/s400/painted+faux+tile+backsplash.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>&nbsp; &nbsp; Once you have your&nbsp;design&nbsp;sketched out and in place...take a deep breath, stand back and let the admiration begin! Before you begin anything, make sure you have grout line stencil tape in your&nbsp;possession! I looked high and low for this tape! It is hard to find! Use the stencil grout tape to tape over your pencil lines. Be sure to press the tape firmly into place. Yes, this is a pain in the rear!<span style="font-size: large;"> Think happy thoughts! It will be so worth it!</span> Use scissors to cut your tape for sharp precise lines. Use the painters tape to protect the outer borders and cabinets.<br /> <br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Many tutorials include adding dimension to your tiles by using drywall compound after this step. If you choose to do this, work by section to apply the compound and remove the tape promptly! Do not let it dry under the compound! Once it is all dry, re apply tape and follow the next few steps... DIY Network has a wonderful tutorial for using drywall compound&nbsp;<a href="http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/faux-tile-backsplash/index.html">Faux tile backsplash</a>&nbsp;We obviously chose to not use the dry wall compound....<br /> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xk6cvuOkkI0/UPgezo3bCRI/AAAAAAAADv0/zFKhzdRrac4/s1600/paint+ideas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xk6cvuOkkI0/UPgezo3bCRI/AAAAAAAADv0/zFKhzdRrac4/s320/paint+ideas.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><h2><i>Ready to paint?</i></h2><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; Find a few shades that coordinate with your colors. These small color samples from valspar are perfect! For under three dollars they are just right for a project of this size! Dip your sponge into one of your colors. If you start in the middle of a taped off tile when your brush is wettest, then work out to the taped edge with a drier sponge it will cut down on paint bleed! To achieve the faux tile look apply a few different colors....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2aToxE9dqJs/UPgen5LiNjI/AAAAAAAADu8/XXQyx2GBkWg/s1600/backsplash+ideas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2aToxE9dqJs/UPgen5LiNjI/AAAAAAAADu8/XXQyx2GBkWg/s320/backsplash+ideas.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><h2>and blend!</h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FiWfQzOzocQ/UPgezrvDe2I/AAAAAAAADvw/An0g0C5Qkis/s1600/kitchen+backsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FiWfQzOzocQ/UPgezrvDe2I/AAAAAAAADvw/An0g0C5Qkis/s320/kitchen+backsplash.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9wI_J19abtg/UPget8i8xtI/AAAAAAAADvM/tmIBSYQrK2Q/s1600/faux+finishes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9wI_J19abtg/UPget8i8xtI/AAAAAAAADvM/tmIBSYQrK2Q/s400/faux+finishes.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div><h2>&nbsp;Work in sections...</h2>&nbsp;to apply your paint. As you finish a section, remove the tape from where you began. This will help you avoid removing more than tape! Don't be afraid to be creative! Continue working by section until you have completed your backsplash!<br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9Db959luZFI/UPgeuYTA8yI/AAAAAAAADvU/DIywIxhAZ0k/s1600/faux+tile+painting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="176" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9Db959luZFI/UPgeuYTA8yI/AAAAAAAADvU/DIywIxhAZ0k/s320/faux+tile+painting.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ExPkQQ2rYzw/UPgeuiFzQMI/AAAAAAAADvY/mz7_afamVFA/s1600/faux+painting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ExPkQQ2rYzw/UPgeuiFzQMI/AAAAAAAADvY/mz7_afamVFA/s400/faux+painting.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9U0KxLlgZNI/UPgerqncYrI/AAAAAAAADvE/nCwzuB1QI_0/s1600/backsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9U0KxLlgZNI/UPgerqncYrI/AAAAAAAADvE/nCwzuB1QI_0/s320/backsplash.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /> </div><h2>Viola!</h2><div>After you have removed all of your tape it is time for touch ups! By using a drier sponge around the tape lines I was able to&nbsp;significantly&nbsp;cut down on bleed, however I did still need to correct a few areas. What do you think? Once your tiles are complete and have dried for 24 hours apply a water based polyurethane to seal and protect! This will also give the illusions of glossy tiles! Now to the repainting of the rest of the kitchen!</div><div><br /> </div><h2><i>Ready to try this? Friday as I pondered the taste I was after..... Somewhere between the cheesy goodness of a local pizzeria and the classic crunch of a focaccia sandwich I decided to experiment a little! I ended up with a soft, fluffy bread that was thick enough to slather with mayo and stuff it full of ham and turkey! Give it a try! It also went well with our creamy pesto as breadsticks! <br /> <br /> 1 3/4 cup warm water<br /> 1/4 ounce package of yeast<br /> 1 T granulated sugar<br /> 5 1/2 cups of flour<br /> 2 cups shredded mozzarella <br /> Italian seasoning<br /> Rosemary<br /> 1 T salt<br /> 1 cup olive oil<br /> <br /> Start by combining the sugar, warm water and yeast in a small bowl. Set aside for at least ten minutes until it is nice and bubbly. <br /> <br /> In a separate bowl mix 5 cups of the flour and salt. Mix in the yeast mixture then use the remaining flour to dust the counter. <br /> <br /> Begin kneading the dough incorporating the extra flour and knead until smooth. Use some of the olive oil to oil a bowl. Place dough ball in the oiled bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size. <br /> <br /> Oil a baking pan and once the dough has risen divide into two equal balls. Press one of the dough balls into the pan and once flat brush with olive oil, sprinkle with rosemary and Italian seasoning. Be sure to poke finger holes into your dough! <br /> <br /> Spread the mozzarella onto the top then take the second ball, press over the top of the cheese covering the bottom layer of dough. Pre heat oven to 425 degrees F and let rise again. Brush with oil and sprinkle with seasonings. Bake until golden brown! Let cool slice and enjoy!<br /> <br /> <p class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dNCyOOGp0hg/UPR1WAAz4BI/AAAAAAAADtY/7UjaePlZg1g/s1600/IMG_0841-704405.jpg"><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dNCyOOGp0hg/UPR1WAAz4BI/AAAAAAAADtY/7UjaePlZg1g/s320/IMG_0841-704405.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5833416438172606482" /></a></p><br /> <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/k_9AyBRWLPA" height="1" width="1"/>Loressa Curiouswisdomhttps://plus.google.com/113105502217106127985noreply@blogger.com12http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2013/01/mozzarella-focaccia-bread.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1346775621836040943.post-80487239351386155692013-01-09T13:43:00.001-08:002013-01-09T13:43:47.306-08:002013-01-09T13:43:47.306-08:00Best Deals for Lee's and Maceys<div> *These may not match your local store...these are the lowest prices that I have found from my own personal ad shopping...</div> <div> <br /></div> <div> WF = Western Family</div> <div> <br /></div> <span style="font-size: x-large;">Lee's Marketplace through Saturday</span><br /> <div> <div> WF 6 oz Yogurt 3 for $1</div> <div> WF Large Dozen Eggs $1.25</div> <div> WF Petal Soft TP 36 roll or 18 big roll $6.99</div> <div> Saralee 20 oz Bread - Buy one, Get One</div> <div> <span style="color: #6fa8dc;">BEST PRICE YOU WILL EVER FIND on WF:</span> WF 15 oz Canned Fruit - Pears and Peaches maybe others 0.79</div> <div> WF Spaghetti</div> <div> WF 4 oz Green Chilies 0.50</div> <div> <span style="font-size: large;">Lee's on Wednesdays - Milk $1.98 a gallon</span></div> <div> <br /></div> <div> <span style="font-size: x-large;">Macey's through Monday (Don't forget double ad Mondays at Maceys - Two weeks' ads on one day)</span></div> <div> <span style="color: #6fa8dc;">BEST PRICE YOU WILL EVER FIND on Hunts: </span>Hunts 24 oz Spaghetti Sauce 0.77</div> <div> Saralee 20 oz Bread - Buy One, Get One</div> <div> WF Hashbrowns</div> <div> WF 15 oz Specialty Beans 0.47</div> <div> WF 20 oz upside down or 24 oz regular ketchup 0.89</div> <div> WF&nbsp;Petal Soft TP 36 roll or 18 big roll $6.99</div> <div> WF 4 oz Green Chilies 0.50</div> <div> WF 6 oz Yogurt 3 for $1</div> <div> <span style="color: #6fa8dc;">BEST PRICE YOU WILL EVER FIND on WF:</span>&nbsp;WF 15 oz Canned Fruit - Pears and Peaches maybe others 0.79</div> </div> <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/wXWXQbWqJ8k" height="1" width="1"/>Mallorienoreply@blogger.com0http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2013/01/best-deals-for-lees-and-maceys.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1346775621836040943.post-58168896702280727312013-01-05T07:36:00.001-08:002013-01-05T08:38:21.319-08:002013-01-05T08:38:21.319-08:00Weekend plans.....<p class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aoDFjgkj-DU/UOhIibrPOAI/AAAAAAAADro/JGRfHbYdTng/s1600/IMG_0767-701179.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aoDFjgkj-DU/UOhIibrPOAI/AAAAAAAADro/JGRfHbYdTng/s320/IMG_0767-701179.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5829989474012968962" /></a></p><br /> <br /> As my husband pulls out of the drive for a day ridin with the boys, me and my best girls wonder aloud what we will do with a beautiful Saturday ahead of us! Perhaps a treasure hunt or two at the local thrift store.... I am in desperate need of a cute DIY! Lunch at Apple spice and a tour of the mall.... This girls day will be a real free for all!<br /> <br /> What does spaghetti pie have to do with this post? Probably not much...... <br /> <br /> Sunday dinner is one of my favorite meals of the week! As requested by my nine year old we will be having spaghetti pie! This recipe is a family favorite! I like to use rotini noodles instead of spaghetti because it makes a better "crust" and the cheese and butter really get into those nooks and crannies! Enjoy!<br /> <br /> Crust:<br /> 1 package cooked rotini noodles<br /> 2 tbs salted sweet cream butter<br /> 2 eggs<br /> 1/2 cup Parmesan <br /> <br /> Sauce:<br /> 1 pound browned ground chicken<br /> 1/2 cup diced pepperoni slices<br /> 1 small onion diced<br /> 4 cups marinara <br /> <br /> Filling:<br /> 1 cup ricotta<br /> 3 cups cottage cheese<br /> 1 cup mozzarella cheese<br /> 2 tbs Italian seasoning<br /> <br /> Per heat oven to 350<br /> <br /> Start by cooking noodles until they are soft but still slightly crunchy. This will keep your noodles from becoming too soft in the oven. Place noodles in a ungreased baking 9x13 baking pan. Add butter to noodles and allow them to cool. Once they have cooled beat the eggs and Parmesan cheese together and add to the noodles. Mix eggs into noodles thoroughly and press them into the pan forming your crust.<br /> <br /> Set the noodle crust aside while you brown your ground meat and onion. Once browned and drained add the diced pepperoni and marinara. Simmer the sauce while you prepare the filling.<br /> <br /> Combine the filling ingredients mixing well. Spoon the filling mix onto the prepared noodle crust making sure to cover the entire crust. Finally cover the filling with the prepared sauce. Top with additional cheese if desired! Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes! <br /> <br /> Serve with a veggie side and garlic bread!<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/ShjkS7FTV-g" height="1" width="1"/>Loressa Curiouswisdomhttps://plus.google.com/113105502217106127985noreply@blogger.com1http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2013/01/spaghetti-pie-anyone.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1346775621836040943.post-56780999281415057142013-01-03T07:12:00.001-08:002013-01-03T07:33:22.812-08:002013-01-03T07:33:22.812-08:00To you my dear New Year.....<p class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5zUNBYbsC9M/UOWf6NfeRNI/AAAAAAAADq8/yuH_oZJ4pPQ/s1600/photo-760288.JPG"><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5zUNBYbsC9M/UOWf6NfeRNI/AAAAAAAADq8/yuH_oZJ4pPQ/s320/photo-760288.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5829241115103872210" /></a></p><br /> <br /> Yesterday as my daughter and I sat snuggled on the couch and reminisced the holidays our conversation wandered to resolutions. The allure of a fresh brand new year is enough to entice anyone to pledge thoughtful changes to oneself. <br /> <br /> The scale will always taunt us. Personalities will clash and opinions will differ.....<br /> <br /> This year I resolve to bring the focus back to my own home. My resolution is to face each day with bravery and commitment. Making decisions that are in the best interest of my family, concerning myself less with the opinions of others and listening to my heart. Many difficult challenges will no doubt find us this year. I resolve to find the strength in every situation.....<br /> <br /> I resolve to Laugh when I want to cry. Love when I feel hate. Live each day as it is, a new opportunity. Kiss my sweet husband every chance I get! Hold hands! Listen to the imagination of a child. Dance with joy at every milestone..... <br /> <br /> Live vicariously, run a half marathon.....<br /> <br /> Bring it on 2013!<br /> <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/ZllwaLuc3B4" height="1" width="1"/>Loressa Curiouswisdomhttps://plus.google.com/113105502217106127985noreply@blogger.com20http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2013/01/to-you-my-dear-new-year.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1346775621836040943.post-70527865546222350832013-01-02T20:00:00.001-08:002013-01-02T20:00:33.262-08:002013-01-02T20:00:33.262-08:00No nonsense! <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'> <p>This post brought to you by <a rel='nofollow' href='http://app.socialspark.com/disclosure_clicks?oid=8972147'>No nonsense</a>. I hardley felt as though I was wearing tights, as they have been know to be quite cumbersome in the past!</p> <p> <img style='height: 400px; width: 477px;' src='http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff389/garrinjudd5/Nononsensetights2_zps373fc6e5.jpg' alt=''/></p> <p>     How can you go wrong with the addition of No nonsense tights and leggings to your everyday wardrobe! It was our year to have the older kids for Christmas and the decision was made months ago that we would share a special holiday with them! I grew up snowmobiling through Yellowstone park. Had I known that one day this privilege would be nearly non existent for my own children I perhaps would not have taken it for granted! I have been able to share the family passion with my husband who now bleeds ski doo. My great grandfather Wiese was one of the first people to enter the park by means of snow machine. A young man with a heart for flying across the snow....<br /> <br /> While leaving town for the Christmas holiday is not for everyone it is certainly something our family will always remember! I always look forward to these trips but this year especially so... The day of our departure started out with unease! We received a text from our school district notifying us of the closure of our local high school due to a threat of violence. With Connecticut so fresh and devastating my mother bear instincts came out and my heart raced as I contacted my daughters elementary school which is only a block away from the high school. The superintendent would not allow the closure of the other schools in the district. I am positive this was because he did not want to spread unnecessary panic....<br /> <br /> At the end of the day everyone was safe and we were on our way out of town, away from the chaos that has become "normal" everyday life. For five blissful days I did not worry about gun toting madmen. My children were safe under our presence and protection...<br /> <br /> As we prepared to leave the one place on earth I feel most peaceful, I could not help but cry. Here we go back to reality! Back to uncertainty, back to life. I am so lucky and truly blessed . A few years from now they will not remember what they opened on Christmas morning, but they will remember the things we do together as a family. The new reality of what we must face is overwhelming and saddening.<br /> <br /> And so we're back!<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/WWIB7Bv3oYQ" height="1" width="1"/>Loressa Curiouswisdomhttps://plus.google.com/113105502217106127985noreply@blogger.com3http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2012/12/and-we-back.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1346775621836040943.post-71722287244805183132012-12-18T08:17:00.000-08:002012-12-18T08:24:13.228-08:002012-12-18T08:24:13.228-08:00Wet Ones Sticky Situations contest!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uM3DtqPmapc/UNCQ55gqdnI/AAAAAAAADoI/PKz4uHbzImc/s1600/Wet+WIpes+Sticky+Situations.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uM3DtqPmapc/UNCQ55gqdnI/AAAAAAAADoI/PKz4uHbzImc/s320/Wet+WIpes+Sticky+Situations.jpg" width="238" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <h2> Ahhh! Those hard to shop for friends and family! For me it is a handful of teen and pre teens! My daughter and I shopped aimlessly with little luck! I finally surmised that we could just get them a gift card or money.... Money is the ultimate gift after all. Your recipient is free to do as he or she pleases, but it has always felt a little cold to me! <span style="font-size: large;"><i>I give you the Christmas money tree!</i></span></div> <div> <span style="font-size: large;"><i></i></span><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div> <br /> <span style="font-size: large;"><i></i></span></div> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TjmsetW8zQA/ULYqcG3ETUI/AAAAAAAADkA/r60OsCRCt1k/s1600/Christmas+trees.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TjmsetW8zQA/ULYqcG3ETUI/AAAAAAAADkA/r60OsCRCt1k/s1600/Christmas+trees.JPG" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Start with two pieces of felt. Chilly weather makes me crave the warm smells wafting from the oven! I had never made soft pretzels before and decided it was time! This is an Allrecipes version with a few tweaks! Enjoy!<br /> <br /> Pretzel dough:<br /> <br /> 2- 1/4oz packages yeast<br /> 1 1/4 cup warm water<br /> 2 tablespoons brown sugar<br /> 5 cups bread flour<br /> 1 teaspoon salt<br /> 1 tablespoon apple sauce (as an oil substitute)<br /> <br /> Baking soda bath:<br /> 1/2 cup baking soda<br /> 4 cups hot water<br /> <br /> Egg wash:<br /> 1/2 cup salted sweet cream butter softened<br /> 1 egg<br /> <br /> Pretzel toppings of your choice<br /> <br /> Directions:<br /> Dissolve yeast in warm water with one tbs sugar and let sit until foamy or at least ten minutes. Meanwhile mix flour salt and remaining sugar together in separate bowl. Once yeast is foamy create a well in the flour mixture and add applesauce and yeast. Mix well and then knead dough until elastic. Dough will be dry, add a tbs of water at a time until it is workable. Kneading takes about 10 minutes. Place dough in a lightly greased bowl and let rise for one hour or until doubled in size.<br /> <br /> Once dough has risen preheat oven to 450 and pour dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough into 12 equal parts and roll out into rope shapes. Prepare your baking soda bath. Form a pretzel shape with your dough rope, make sure to cross the ends in the middle portion of your pretzel, this will help it keep its shape during baking. Dip shaped pretzels into baking soda wash for at least 10 seconds prior to placing on a greased cookie sheet. <br /> <br /> After all pretzels have been dipped beat egg and mix in butter. Brush the tops of your pretzel with the egg wash and then whatever your preference for topping.... Course salt, cinnamon, Parmesan e.t.c<br /> <br /> Bake until golden brown, this usually takes less than eight minutes! You now have delicious homemade soft pretzels!<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/iGhHAVscJz8" height="1" width="1"/>Loressa Curiouswisdomhttps://plus.google.com/113105502217106127985noreply@blogger.com0http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2012/11/soft-pretzels.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1346775621836040943.post-5900984158924204442012-11-19T12:40:00.000-08:002012-11-19T12:42:45.929-08:002012-11-19T12:42:45.929-08:00A fond farewell...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qbZ8P4VIpds/UKqSNbyNVmI/AAAAAAAADgs/F8u8-Opb_eU/s1600/kotex-mom-badge-rvsd.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qbZ8P4VIpds/UKqSNbyNVmI/AAAAAAAADgs/F8u8-Opb_eU/s320/kotex-mom-badge-rvsd.png" width="298" /></a></div> <br /> <div> <br /></div> <div> &nbsp; &nbsp; I cannot believe this is my last post as a Kotex ambassador! What a ride this has been! Six months ago when I accepted this opportunity it was with a light heart. I had briefly discussed "the talk" with my daughter but had never stopped to think of the many issues a young girl may face as she begins to become a young lady! Having long forgot the challenges.</div> <div> <br /></div> <div> &nbsp; &nbsp; This campaign opened my eyes and helped me to discover ways to connect with my&nbsp;child. I recently&nbsp;discovered&nbsp;that I do not spend as much one on one time with my nine year old as I should. She needs me to stop and make her the focus instead of trying to harness the unimportant&nbsp;situations I have no control over. I do have control over how I chose to spend time with my little girl who is growing up way to fast! I never imagined becoming an&nbsp;ambassador&nbsp;for this program would open doors that I had long puzzled over! My daughter is more open and willing to give&nbsp;feedback&nbsp; and I feel that if and when necessary she will be comfortable approaching me with any questions she may have!</div> <div> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-go4v5Yu_qy0/UKqVRIXX0UI/AAAAAAAADhc/w4Iy1xgdOSQ/s1600/Curious+Wisdom+2012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-go4v5Yu_qy0/UKqVRIXX0UI/AAAAAAAADhc/w4Iy1xgdOSQ/s1600/Curious+Wisdom+2012.JPG" /></a></div> <div> <br /></div> <div> &nbsp; &nbsp; I was able to emotionally connect with this campaign, because the&nbsp;issues&nbsp;we were given to discuss over the last few months are real, and could happen at any time! I feel more confident and found myself wanting to reach out to other moms who will also be in my shoes soon! What a special time for a mom and daughter!&nbsp;</div> <div> <br /></div> <div> &nbsp; &nbsp; We recently spent the afternoon on the town courtesy of Mom Central! We hit our&nbsp;favorite&nbsp;local bakery Apple Spice and enjoyed each others company in a way we had not had the opportunity to in months! What an amazingly smart and talented young girl I have! Stopping to giggle and share secrets! That afternoon we reestablished confidence in one another. Before my eyes this once toothless little baby doll has become and is becoming someone very special!</div> <div> <br /></div> <div> &nbsp; &nbsp;I was given the chance through this campaign to develop the tools I will need to help her learn. Given courage to embrace change. Taught tolerance for those not so shiny moments, and of course reminded how quickly we need to be prepared to let them grow! I have the Liam Neeson and Claire Daines version of Les Mise on my Kindle Fire and watch it religiously!</div><div class="mobile-photo"></div><div class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DYmO7fyuDNM/UKZXNonN4XI/AAAAAAAADfw/UDH6CVuAYRM/s1600/photo-781103.JPG"><img alt="" bbsrc="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DYmO7fyuDNM/UKZXNonN4XI/AAAAAAAADfw/UDH6CVuAYRM/s320/photo-781103.JPG" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5811428260920025458" /></a></div><br /> <div class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7GvAi7jQHQo/UKZXh9cISRI/AAAAAAAADf8/_IKLGzRFg3Y/s1600/photo-763385.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5811428610108049682" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7GvAi7jQHQo/UKZXh9cISRI/AAAAAAAADf8/_IKLGzRFg3Y/s320/photo-763385.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; The teen saga era remains ever popular, even for us old ladies! Another reason for loving the SoulKeeper series, which by the way would be a fantastic movie! I need to take a deep breath and finish my current reading list! A parents worst nightmare involves injury to their child. As a mother to three very active children the day could come when my husband and I will be faced with searching and researching health care providers to rehabilitate an injured child. What if your child had special needs, and<span style="color: blue;"> <a href="https://na5.salesforce.com/sfc/p/70000000J7XqjZdeJhvOJuviavmW8_h2olPhIzU="><span style="color: blue;">what does that even mean?</span></a></span><br /> <br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; Thankfully as parents we have choices. What do you look for when seeking a healthcare provider for your child? I remember when my nine year old daughter was a baby and suffered through many illnesses. The caring touch and professional attitudes we encountered during her rehabilitation were the very things needed to boost our confidence and get through!<br /> <br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; The <a href="http://www.hss.edu/index.htm"><span style="color: blue;">Hospital for Special Surgery</span></a><span style="font-family: inherit;">&nbsp;founded in 1863<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21.600000381469727px;">&nbsp;is a world leader in orthopedics, rheumatology and rehabilitation. Located in New York City, HSS recently opened the<span style="color: blue;"> <a href="http://www.hss.edu/pediatric-rehab.asp"><span style="color: blue;">CA Technologies&nbsp;Rehabilitation Center</span></a> </span>at the Children's Pavilion providing comprehensive, individualized rehabilitation for both inpatients and outpatients from birth to 21 years.&nbsp; Its multidisciplinary staff includes physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.</span></span><br /> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21.600000381469727px;"><br /> </span></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21.600000381469727px;">&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></span><br /> <iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UwzWjn9wdFk" width="560"></iframe><br /> <br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; If your child has been injured or is facing developmental issues&nbsp;isn't&nbsp;it reassuring to know that facilities like this exist. The pediatric services at HSS include 9 pediatric&nbsp;orthopedic&nbsp;surgeons, 3 pediatric rheumatologists, 3 pediatricians, and 5 pediatric&nbsp;anesthesiologists, along with a rehabilitation team. HSS uses low dose x-ray imaging, which is one less concern for already stressed parents!<br /> <br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; While we all hope for a healthy and non complicated childhood for our children, if the situation arises where the caring touch of skilled professionals is needed The Hospital for Special Surgery is a facility&nbsp;to research! Treating inpatient as well as outpatient from ages birth to 21 with its&nbsp;multidisciplinary&nbsp;staff. Enjoy the warm aroma that will fill your home!<br /> <br /> Turn down heat and let simmer for two hours. Cover your pot and stir occasionally.<br /> <br /> Take off the heat after two hours of simmering and let cool.<br /> <br /> Remove spice bag and mash up the apples to a pulp like consistency <br /> <br /> Once cool pour into a strainer over a large bowl. When most of the juices have drained away, put the remainder of the apples into a doubled up cheese cloth and squeeze over the bowl until no more juice comes out. You can do this as many times as needed.<br /> <br /> store in an air tight container in your refrigerator for up to a week or you can freeze it! Reheat in the microwave or on the stove! I usually get a full gallon from this recipe! I set aside milk cartons to store the cider in!<br /> <br /> ENJOY!<br /> <br /> <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/EvNRVoATq2g" height="1" width="1"/>Loressa Curiouswisdomhttps://plus.google.com/113105502217106127985noreply@blogger.com2http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2012/10/this-weather-calls-for-apple-cider.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1346775621836040943.post-65697077828123291252012-10-25T19:02:00.001-07:002012-10-25T19:02:59.211-07:002012-10-25T19:02:59.211-07:00Aloha!<br /> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; Our beloved Winter season is within reach! Everyone was up early to share in the excitement! <br /> <br /> Do you know what I love more than anything? Besides the obvious of course:) Cooking in the chilly weather! Our home is our haven, nothing delights me more than to see the faces of my husband and kids as they shuffle through the door after the world has had its way with them, catching a whiff of warm deliciousness! <br /> <br /> <p class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8V7Lvk87f1g/UIcRReZf0DI/AAAAAAAADao/zMYN5ussCA0/s1600/photo-761628.JPG"><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8V7Lvk87f1g/UIcRReZf0DI/AAAAAAAADao/zMYN5ussCA0/s320/photo-761628.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5802625636805627954" /></a></p><br /> <br /> Today their noses will be greeted by homemade vanilla toffee cinnamon rolls and oh man! The crock pot is killing me with the smell of made from scratch broccoli and cheese soup! I love the seasons and enjoy my time at home! I can't wait for snowmobile trips! Woot woot!<br /> <br /> <p class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VRcA4p6AJpo/UIcQZ7Hc4QI/AAAAAAAADac/d3Q1zQ9J144/s1600/photo-739449.JPG"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VRcA4p6AJpo/UIcQZ7Hc4QI/AAAAAAAADac/d3Q1zQ9J144/s320/photo-739449.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5802624682441892098" /></a></p><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CuriousWisdomAndOtherEverydayPracticalities/~4/06OGsAliNW8" height="1" width="1"/>Loressa Curiouswisdomhttps://plus.google.com/113105502217106127985noreply@blogger.com2http://www.lifescuriouswisdom.com/2012/10/days-like-these.html
